TV Years

I’ve written for lots of magazines over the years, but one thing I’ve never done is… (deep breath) interview people. Some people are naturals at this. I very definitely am not. But when the call came from TV Years (@TVYears), asking if I’d interview some of the hugest names from children’s telly, I couldn’t say no. So out in the shops now you can find my interviews with the legend that is Sir Tony Robinson about Maid Marian and her Merry Men, one of my all-time favourite shows, and the amazing Jeremy Swan – we talked about Rentaghost, but he was behind so many great programmes. Both of them were very kind and gentle with a novice interviewer, as well as generous with their time. And those interviews are just tiny bits of a wonderful mag – there’s The Famous Five! Press Gang! Bagpuss! Loads of absolutely lovely stuff. It’s gone down well in our household (and here’s a picture to prove it).

Writing about children’s telly has fitted in well with my other work recently – I’ve had great fun turning some preschool TV episodes into books, and I’ve just delivered another teen horror to Badger Publishing. Details soon!
